WHAT WAS THE CHALLENGE?
Recognized by Fortune Magazine as one of the nation’s fastest growing companies, PTI made incredible strides during its first 15 years in the auto industry. However, explosive growth created more demands for the management team. In order to maintain competitive advantage, they needed a management development solution to align strategy with execution and be more prepared to manage long-term success.
WHAT WAS OUR SOLUTION?
Boston Global developed a blended learning program for the management team. Through a combination of video conferences and individual coaching via Skype, each team member learned new skills to apply immediately. We began by assessing communication skills and work style to identify strengths and needs. In a 90-minute meeting with each manager, we developed an action plan for learning – and used data from the assessment to drive our decision making. Once the individual assessment was complete, we developed a series of group workshops to address specific management skills.
One of the core workshops was centered on Design Thinking, a creative approach developed at Stanford Business School that helps teams address problems with a more positive mindset. In addition to providing a fun framework – using color, drawings, and timed discussions – this technique provides tools for breaking down systems and processes and identifying areas for improvement. It’s fun and highly engaging to use the tools and the atmosphere is very different from a traditional meeting.
WHAT WERE THE BUSINESS OUTCOMES?
Already, the program has had a significant impact on the team. There has been a greater level of enthusiasm throughout the office as employees learn to take a more active role in identifying and solving problems with design thinking techniques. With the company’s goals and objectives firmly defined, this new sense of empowerment has given team members the confidence – and skills – to initiate change.
As CEO David Salazar observed, “In only a short time, Boston Global has helped my team become more energized, integrated and proactive. They have gained a deeper understanding of how to use their strengths to support our growth as a company.”
